Just found out that Say Anything have a new album, awesome.

Here’s a classic from aaaages ago, a love-rock song written about his grandpa and grandma who survived the Holocaust. With this in mind it just makes the song so much better.

Electo-pop from Australia. Tim and Jean are young and sporting a dodgy moustache. Good songs though.

Came across this on NOTCOT a few days ago, so you might have already seen it. Dmitry Samarov is a Art graduate currently working as a cabbie in Chicago, his interview shows that a career in Art is never guarenteed after graduation.

Only shows a little of his work but you can go on his flickr to see more. I think the interview is definately worth a look though.

Another music related post here, based around one of my favourite bands right now, Frightened Rabbit. Anyway I found out that the frontman, Scott Hutchison attended Glasgow Art School but gave up that for his band.

The album/single artwork they’ve produced looks pretty damn sweet.

Apologies for the smallish size images, not really showing off the work too well!

Watched Objectfied today, a film by the same person who directed Helvetica. I’m just going to post some key phrases I noted down.

form bears no relation to function

“wear-in rather than wear-out

“why does something have to be built to be permanent?”

“remove, remove, remove, bit by bit, anything that is not necessary

“design is about mass consumption”

Obviously there’s loads more choice quotes, but I think the most interesting section to me was the form relating to function part of the film. We used to live in a world where form followed function, but the introduction of the computer chip has completely changed that, we now live in a world where the objects look gives the user no indication of what it does, the example given was Apple’s iPhone.

Anyway, comments and thoughts on this subject would be interesting.

A couple of days till I go to see this band, who are supporting the Automatic. I really couldn’t care less about the Automatic, I’m there to support Reginald.

Here’s their myspace blurb;

“Reginald are a party of 4 from Glasgow, who combine intense math rock with light-hearted lyrics. Drawing influence from Biffy Clyro, The Fall of Troy and At The Drive-in, Reginald have a little something for every rock fan, and have developed a unique sound and a huge live show which they throw literally everything into.

Andrew, Peter, Barry and Neil (as they are known individually) have released two EPs, and shared the stage with some amazing bands – The Automatic, Hot Club de Paris, Twin Atlantic, Attack! Attack!, Blakfish and In Case Of Fire to name a few, or more accurately, 6.

In time, Reginald will be one of those bands that other bands list in their ‘amazing bands we’ve played with’ section, and they will strike you down if you try to stop them.”

AWESOME GUYS.

Gig is 26th of November, tickets cost £8. Anyone who’s in the borders region make the effort to get to the Brickyard in Carlisle!

Morning!

Finally getting round to posting some work I’ve actually done.

In our first semester of third year we had a “pressure” project, based around the future of the world in twenty years time. The hand-in dates over ran and we ended up having no real pressure on us.

I was looking at the future of healthcare and self-medication, and the introdcution of stem-cell treatments in first aid. I found that scientists and doctors are currently testing a stem cell gel, which reduces head trauma on patients after car crashes.

So I applied this to first aid and how it could be used in everyday life. My final outcome was a gel that was applied to bandages, plasters and even sutures. Obviously it was not actually possible for me to make this gel, but I produced a pretty sweet photo.

I wish I’d made a better model.

Trying to sort this whole “twitter-linked-to-blog” thing. RSS Feeds galore. Hopefully got it working now though but there’s only one way to find it out. While I’m here, have a look at my little design company’s blog, Unbox. There’s some particularly interesting posts from Paddy Stevenson. I have neglected it so far this year which I’m annoyed about.

We also have a sweet website. Have fun checking it out!

ps. Sorry Paddy and Tim, there’s just not any photos of us all!

Some really nice pictures from David Montes. Gotta love snow!

Skhizein (Jérémy Clapin,2008) from Behemoth on Vimeo.

ARGH, this is not working. But click on the link. Great little french animation.

Definately worth a view.
